If the annulus of an intervertebral disc ruptures, part of it can be displaced into the spinal canal, thereby compressing the nearby roots. The leaflet (ChN 1) provides information about treatment of the prolapsed disc in the lumbar or thoracic spine in an open or percutaneous operation in which the prolapsed tissue of the intervertebral disc is removed.
