Surgical breast reduction can be advisable from an orthopaedic standpoint in patients who have excessively large breasts (“Breast Reduction and/or Tightening, PlOp 6”). Sagging breasts frequently also cause additional discomfort due to the large contact area between the sagging breast and the chest surface (midriff area). In addition, raw skin and local infections can occur in the mammary folds, which is another reason why corrective surgery may be recommended.
