The goal of this operation is to eliminate the source of bleeding, to remove third- and fourth-degree haemorrhoids, thereby preserving as much of the internal anal lining as possible, which is essential for complete closure of the anus, or to return the internal lining back into the anus. Healthy parts of the haemorrhoidal cushion and the sphincter muscle remain intact for the most part.
